Case Studies

Tina Charles

Tina CharlesVivacious and spirited 70's chart topper, Tina Charles signed to PMG Music in 2010.

In a career that began when she was 15 years old, Tina has worked with the likes of Elton John and Trevor Horn. Her single, the effervescent "I Love To Love" was Number 1 in the UK for 3 weeks and topped the charts all over the world, selling in excess of 26 million copies. This was followed by a succession of hits, including "Dance Little Lady" and "Doctor Love".

Since signing to PMG, Tina has been recording with top producers Dave Ford, Ian Curnow & Carl M Cox at the world famous Strongroom Studios in London. These sessions produced the brand new and highly anticipated single, "Your Love Is My Light" and a re-make of Tina's swan song hit, the aforementioned, "I Love To Love".

PMG Music have licensed "Your Love Is My Light" to dance label, Energise Records and in association with Just Good Music For Your Ears, the single is scheduled for release late October 2011. We have produced a bumper package of remixes, to cater for all musical persuasions including a stripped back acoustic mix, contemporary dance mixes from Glamma and Steen Larsen and a killer retro style mix, from 'Mixmaster' Pete Hammond.

A brand new studio album is currently under development and is ear marked for release in 2012.

Coronation Street

Corrie 50thIn December 2010 PMG Music were commissioned by Maycon Productions, who were working with Tesco Entertainment, to produce a number of remix tracks from their exclusive album, "Coronation Street: Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools".

The album, which Tesco had released in November 2010 in partnership with Reckless Entertainment and ITV Studios, featured an all new musical, written by Trisha Ward, based around some of 'Coronation Street's' most iconic story-lines during its 50 year history. An ensemble of past and present cast members from Britian's favorite soap were joined at Abbey Road Studios by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and some of the West End's leading performers to deliver this musical journey down Weatherfield's famous cobbles.

PMG were then asked to remix two of the seminal songs from the album, performed by leading stars Katherine Kelly, Kym Marsh and Rachel Leskovac for introduction into the clubs. A third song from the album, "Sweet Butterfly" performed by singer, Andrew Derbyshire was also remixed by us.

Katherine Kelly

Katherine KellyMulti-award winning actress, Katherine Kelly- known to millions as 'Coronation Street's' fiery Becky McDonald- reprised her role as Weatherfield's diamond in the rough to take the lead on the evocative ballad, "If It's Too Late", from the "Coronation Street: Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools" album.

Written and co-produced by musical luminary, Trisha Ward, it was first released as a stand alone single in its original form towards the end of November 2010. PMG Music were then asked to remix the single for a re-release in the clubs.

We produced three different mixes in order to reach the widest possible audience. The ultra contemporary "PMG's Strength And Pride Mix" produced for the mainstream clubs. The "PMG's By'eck Becky Mix" was more pop fused for the dance-pop clubs and our legendary 'Mixmaster' Pete Hammond came on board to deliver the retro styled, "Pete Hammond's Coronation-Beat Mix".

Kym Marsh

Kym MarshFrom Popstar to soap star, former Hear'Say singer, Kym Marsh stepped out of her role as bar maid Michelle Connor and into the role of one of 'Coronation Street's' most iconic and best loved characters, Elsie Tanner.

So central to the Street's early stories, Elsie features in three of the eleven songs on the "Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools" album.  All performed by Kym, they include the heart rendering ballad, "I Know How It Feels" and the gutsy "He's My Man"; the latter of which PMG Music were tasked to remix.

A true to form northern cat fight of a song, it sees Elsie pitched against then newcomer Bet Lynch, hence "PMG's Lynch On T'Cobbles Mix". A duet between the two, Kym is joined by former 'Coronation Street' actress, Rachel Leskovac who takes on the role of Bet.

Hazell Dean

Hazell DeanPMG Music were approached by Energise Records during 2010 to remix the new single of pop favorite, Hazell Dean.

A remake of Hazell's classic hit, "They Say It's Gonna Rain" we provided two mixes for the label, "PMG's Catz 'n' Dogz Mix" and "PMG's Monsoon Mix". Both mixes were released on 14th February 2011.

Hazell was so pleased with the PMG mixes, particulary the "Monsoon Mix" , she requested that we cut a special backing track for her so she can perform it live at her forthcoming shows.

Boy George

Boy GeorgeWorld famous platinum selling singer and superstar DJ, Boy George joined PMG Music and our Italian production partners, Just Good Music to work on Amanda Lear's "Brief Encounters Reloaded" album in 2010. George and his remix buddy, Kinky Roland added their midas touch to the Amanda Lear feat. Deadstar duet, "Someone Else's Eyes" which we released as a special single.

PMG Music and Just Good Music then supported Boy George & Culture Club's concert at Italy's Gay Village on 2nd September 2010. We played the "Someone Else's Eyes" video at the start of the show and fans were treated to complimentary copies of the single.

Deadstar

DeadstarPMG Music were delighted to team up with multi talented Italian singer, songwriter, producer and radio presenter, Deadstar in January 2009. We started out by remixing his single, "Someone Else's Eyes"- a duet with legendary icon, Amanda Lear.

In November 2009, we then remixed several of Deadstar's original Amanda Lear productions as part of our "Brief Encounters Reloaded" project.

We have continued to work with Deadstar throughout 2010 on two projects, "Deadstar Sings Michael Jackson"- his personal tribute to the late King of Pop- and a brand new single, a cover of the popular Amanda Lear track, "Doin' Fine" which is scheduled for release in 2011.

Belle

BelleAward winning Swedish pop starlet, Belle was the sound of summer 2010 with her slice of Scandinavian power pop appropriately titled, "Sound Of Summer".

Having been approached by Belle's management, PMG Music were asked to remix her single for the pop clubs and the "Life's A Beach Party Mix" was born!

The single was released in Sweden and Benelux territory in June 2010 and proved to be an irresistible summer anthem.

Amanda Lear

Amanda LearWith over 45 million records sold to date, what can be said about actress, writer, artist and disco goddess Amanda Lear, that hasn’t already? The enigmatic and captivating icon started working with PMG Music at the end of 2008 to record the Boney M sampled “Doin’ Fine” for her 14th studio album, “Brief Encounters”. In the spring of 2009, we were then commissioned to remix her new album’s lead single- a sensual duet with Italian singer, Deadstar- entitled, “Someone Else’s Eyes”. We delivered two mixes, the "All Eyes On The Dance Floor Mix" and the "Fully Loaded NRG Mix".

Following this, in the autumn of 2009, PMG Music began working on a new project with Amanda's Italian label, Just Good Music For Your Ears, and together devised, developed and subsequently released, "Brief Encounters Reloaded"; a dance album comprised of remixed tracks taken from the earlier "Brief Encounters" album. "Brief Encounters Reloaded" saw the PMG/JGM partnership bringing in top talent, the likes of Boy George, Pete Hammond and Dave Ford & Ian Curnow to provide remixes to compliment our own in house mixes. Amidst much anticipation, the album was released in Europe during May 2010 and was superseded by a special remix single of "Someone Else's Eyes" again released jointly by PMG Music and Just Good Music.

The album has been a success for us in many ways. It's our first self released product both digitally and physically. We also secured an exclusive deal with premier dance label, Almighty Records to sell "Brief Encounters Reloaded" via their online retail store, the Almighty Solar Site. It was released via Almighty Records in July making this the first new release by Amanda Lear to be officially released in the UK in over a decade.

The album was launched at the Manchester Gay Pride, 'Big Weekend' in August 2010 and was played to throngs of revelers at the opening and closing ceremonies.

In addition, the PMG Web Team also provided the English content for Amanda's multi-lingual official "Brief Encounters" website.

Neil Sean

Neil SeanOur very own “Mr Showbiz”, Neil currently divides his time between New York and London as an entertainment and royal correspondent for NBC in America. This is in addition to providing broadcast content and studio facilities from his Westminster Live studios for channels such BBC News, Fox News and Living TV. Neil also writes for The Daily Mail, Metro, Now Magazine and numerous other publications.

An all round entertainer, Neil started his career in musical theatre, where a chance meeting with Barry Manilow led to him working with hit producers, Mike Stock & Matt Aitken as a session vocalist. Spring 2010 saw Neil fulfilling a life long ambition, when he appeared on Broadway as a special guest in the role of Billy Flynn in the stage hit, 'Chicago'.

Neil teamed up with Carl M Cox and PMG Music in October 2008 and we have continued to work together ever since. With PMG, Neil has provided backing vocals for Amanda Lear, filmed interviews with Sinitta and handled most of our PR both in the UK and USA.

During spring 2010 we embarked on a new project with Neil, in association with the Mail On Sunday newspaper, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the nation's favorite soap, 'Coronation Street'. The aforementioned hit producers, Mike Stock & Matt Aitken had been commissioned in 1996 by then Granada Television (now ITV Studios) to write a new song based on Eric Spear's famous theme tune for 'Coronation Street'. This they did and the song, "Sing Me A Memory" was born. At the time, Neil was both Stock & Aitken's PR chief and a studio session singer and with them recorded the song. However it remained unreleased and eventually became forgotten for almost fourteen years.

PMG Music unearthed the track and recorded a brand new version with Neil. In a departure from our a ususal style, this production was a classical jazz arrangement with an orchestra from Riga in Latvia. A true demonstration of the diversity and quality of PMG's output.

Sinitta

SinittaDubbed Simon Cowell’s “Girl Friday”, ‘X Factor’ mentor and TV personality, Sinitta is one of the original 80’s pop princesses. She teamed up with PMG Music in 2007 to work on recording new material- her first sessions in over 10 years.

Carl M Cox and Nathan Thomas wrote and produced the song, "The Day You Said Goodbye" which became the lead track for Sinitta's first ever official hits compilation. They also produced a contemporary remake of Sinitta's classic hit "Toy Boy". Carl then joined forces with legendary producer and 'Mixmaster', Pete Hammond, one of Sinitta's former producers. Pete's authentic retro style remix of "The Day You Said Goodbye" played a stunning homage to the now infamous PWL sound that had scored Sinitta so many hits in the 80's and has enjoyed a recent renaissance.

October 2009 saw the release by Cherry Pop Records, in association with PMG Music and Sony Music, of "The Hits+ Collection 86-09: Right Back Where We Started From". The 33 track double CD anthology was co-ordinated from conception to completion by Carl M Cox and was the culmination of three years dedicated, and at times gruelling, work by Carl and the PMG team. Not only was the album the first hits retrospective for Sinitta, every single track was digitally remastered from the original studio master tapes, presenting the music in crystal clear audio as had never before been heard. The album also saw the first time release of a number of recordings that for one reason or another had remained in the archives at Pete Waterman's London studio. Sales of this album have been remarkable and exceeded all expectations.

Following this, in November 2009 PMG Music licensed the worldwide digital media rights to our Sinitta catalogue to Sony Music Entertainment UK and "The Hits+ Collection" was limited edition released across iTunes and all other digital platforms.

A further brand new 2010 remix of "Toy Boy (Reloaded)", entitled "PMG's Even Bigger Bicep Mix" was licensed to Energise Records and released on their album, "Danger! Hi-NRG Vol. 1" in June 2010.

Samantha Fox

Samantha FoxModel, former 80’s pop pin up and 2009 ‘I’m A Celebrity
Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant, Samantha Fox joined PMG in 2009 to work on her new greatest hits compilation album and record a new track with us.

The album, the first ever comprehensive collection of all of Sam's hit singles along with a selection or rare and previously unreleased recordings was devised, developed and co-ordinated from conception by Carl M Cox with direct input from Sam. The album was released both physically and digitally in December 2009 as a special deluxe edition and standard edition by Sony Music Entertainment UK.

PMG Music was also commissioned by Sony Music Entertainment to record a brand new contemporary remake of Sam's classic smash hit, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now”. Jointly produced by Carl M Cox, Nathan Thomas and Pete Hammond, we delivered a standard radio mix and the extended "Mind Control Mix" , a clip of which can currently be heard on our media player.

Modernization

ModernizationModernization first came onto the music scene with the 2006 dance number, "Sexy Sexy Lover" featuring Gloria Garcia on Klone Records' "Mad About The Boy 15" album.

This was followed in 2010 with the highly infectious dance cover of the Phil Collins hit, "Sussudio" featuring Cash, which was licensed to NRG-X Records and released on their "Danger! Hi-NRG Vol. 2" album.
Danny Bayne

Danny BayneWinner of ITV’s musical talent search, ‘Grease Is The Word’ (Syco TV/Fremantle Media), Danny was instantly catapulted to the glitz of London’s West and into the PMG studio where he recorded his debut single, a cover of the Rick Astley track, “My Arms Keep Missing You”.

Forever Carpenters

Forever Carpenters“
When I was young I had listened to the radio waiting for my favourite song
” was exactly the idea when PMG Music conceived and developed “Forever Carpenters” for Klone Records in 2007. A project that Carl M Cox had originally devised in 2001, the objective was to present the music of chart topping, sibling duo the Carpenters to a whole new generation of music fans.

The album was produced by Carl M Cox, Nathan Thomas and Martin Fisher and each song was performed with staggering accuracy, by Karen Carpenter sound-alike and celebrated recording artist, Jenny Sinclair.

With the album sleeve art by PMG Design concluding the project, "Forever Carpenters" was released in the UK in November 2007, where it charted at number 5 on the Dance Music Authority chart.

The album was then licensed to Singapore label EQ Music and released internationally in July 2008 where it proved to be both a critical and commercial hit. Several songs from the album were subsequently lifted from the album and released on a variety of top selling dance compilations throughout the Far East.

In 2009 PMG Music joined in the celebrations marking the Carpenters 40th Anniversary in the music industry by recording a special one off single, again with Jenny Sinclair, of the song, "Top Of The World". Produced by Carl M Cox, Steen Ulrich and Martin Fisher, the track was then licensed to Energise Records.
